Katrina
6 September 05Skywatchers,
.....I posted hurricane flags last month in SW, knowing the turbulence up in the heavens would translate into fierce storms here on Earth. But Katrina caught me off guard, like everyone else, as she roared to full power on the very night Mars squared Neptune. A day later the storm smashed into the gulf coast and the levees failed New Orleans. Nothing in the SW could qualify the destructive power of this event. And I was puzzled. We expected a storm, but not this.
I walked around the house dazed for a couple of days and finally looked up the chart of New Orleans, first incorporated on February 17, 1805, at high noon. Yes, we have charts of states, cities, and sometimes countries, if the moment of birth is recorded. So, the Big Easy is an Aquarian who loves the bohemian ways. Especially since the Sun in this chart is exactly square Neptune in Scorpio. Sex, drugs, booze, cemeteries and vampires all come under Neptune's spell. Here's a perfect symbol of the energy in this city – it's reputation but not really the fact – Neptune. The danger of this square to the city is water. Neptune rules the ocean, oil and chemicals. Scorpio rules big rivers and impounded water. From birth, NO would be more subject to natural disasters involving water.
Given the astrological fingerprint of NO, I plugged in the positions of the planets in the heavens back into the city's chart at the moment the storm stuck. This is how astrology observes the cycles of time and energy. Planets colliding in this study signal an unusual event and that was the case here. As Uranus, the planet of unpredictable changes, collided with Pluto, the planet of death in the chart of NO. The moment was precise as flood waters peaked at the end of August.
“Violent upheavals or rioting which brings changes to the government.” is one author's description of this collision. The sign in which these planets meet is Pisces – ruled by Neptune who rules the ocean. A water sign. And it's an event that only occurs once every 84 years. Historians can look back and perhaps find a pattern in this cycle of change. And there's truth to the gut feel of folks who say that this is a once in a century/lifetime event.
Was this predictable? Yes and No. Inevitable? No. The city had a weakness, as we all do. If the leadership of the city, state and government (the Sun) had addressed it, this collision of planets would have been a time of testing the system, but not been the destructive force it has been. Nature is not nearly as cruel as the selfish. And NO has survived two of these astrological events before. Yes, we knew a storm was coming, but it's terrible outcome had roots in past decisions.
Was it a coincidence these planets collided exactly in the chart of NO on the day the waters rose in the Big Easy? Is there a lesson here for all of us? You bet. Shore up your weakest points in the days ahead. Build your levees a little higher. Stick some money the bank. Be sure to let love guide your steps and words. And say a prayer for the lives lost in Katrina. As times change.
Peace,
Lance
