Katrina

7 September 05

Skywatchers,

.....I posted hurricane flags last month in SW, knowing the turbulence up in the heavens would translate into fierce storms here on Earth. But Katrina caught me off guard, like everyone else, as she roared to full power on the very night Mars squared Neptune. A day later the storm smashed into the gulf coast and the levees failed New Orleans. Nothing in the SW could qualify the destructive power of this event. And I was puzzled. We expected a storm, but not this.

I walked around the house dazed for a couple of days and finally looked up the chart of New Orleans, first incorporated on February 17, 1805, at high noon. Yes, we have charts of states, cities, and sometimes countries, if the moment of birth is recorded. So, the Big Easy is an Aquarian who loves the bohemian ways. Especially since the Sun in this chart is exactly square Neptune in Scorpio. Sex, drugs, booze, cemeteries and vampires all come under Neptune's spell. Here's a perfect symbol of the energy in this city – it's reputation but not really the fact – Neptune. The danger of this square to the city is water. Neptune rules the ocean, oil and chemicals. Scorpio rules big rivers and impounded water. From birth, NO would be more subject to natural disasters involving water.

Given the astrological fingerprint of NO, I plugged in the positions of the planets in the heavens back into the city's chart at the moment the storm stuck. This is how astrology observes the cycles of time and energy. Planets colliding in this study signal an unusual event and that was the case here. As Uranus, the planet of unpredictable changes, collided with Pluto, the planet of death in the chart of NO. The moment was precise as flood waters peaked at the end of August.

“Violent upheavals or rioting which brings changes to the government.” is one author's description of this collision. The sign in which these planets meet is Pisces – ruled by Neptune who rules the ocean. A water sign. And it's an event that only occurs once every 84 years. Historians can look back and perhaps find a pattern in this cycle of change. And there's truth to the gut feel of folks who say that this is a once in a century/lifetime event.

Was this predictable? Yes and No. Inevitable? No. The city had a weakness, as we all do. If the leadership of the city, state and government (the Sun) had addressed it, this collision of planets would have been a time of testing the system, but not been the destructive force it has been. Nature is not nearly as cruel as the selfish. And NO has survived two of these astrological events before. Yes, we knew a storm was coming, but it's terrible outcome had roots in past decisions.

Was it a coincidence these planets collided exactly in the chart of NO on the day the waters rose in the Big Easy? Is there a lesson here for all of us? You bet. Shore up your weakest points in the days ahead. Build your levees a little higher. Stick some money the bank. Be sure to let love guide your steps and words. And say a prayer for the lives lost in Katrina. As times change.

Peace,

Lance

  1. Thanks, Lance, that was a very well written and informative piece. I was touched by the shore up the weak parts info. and took it to heart.
Now to identify them, and take action.
Thanks for being you, and all your love,

  2. Hi Lance,

Of all the astrological comments I've read on Katrina, yours is the most insightful and conveys healing energy to bring this event into perspective. “Nature is not nearly as cruel as the selfish” is a profound statement. As I've been sorting through my feelings about this event, I realized that a part of my terror was due to some insecurities in my own life and I've been thinking a lot about strengthening my position and taking better care of myself. So I too take your words to heart, thank you. koko    Sep 13, 02:48 AM    #
  3. I would be interested in seeing the same type of article on NYC's birth chart and 9/11 events. Christy    Sep 13, 01:49 PM    #
  4. it is = it's

its house, its problem, its = possessive adjective…

New Orleans was built several times. I've heard it is a cancer…?

I think we need intuition more than anything at this time.

I just found my New Orleans auntie in a hospital in Lafayette Her two kitties are not with her and presumably they've died. The poor people…the poor animals…thanks for calling out for prayers… katy    Sep 13, 03:07 PM    #
  5. Thanks for the great information on Katrina. Like Christy above, I would also like to see information on 9/11. Do you have that available somewhere? Thank you for your great insight. Judy    Sep 13, 04:19 PM    #
  6. Hi Lance this is part of a comment I sent to Molly in reguards to your article which is absolutley a clear, concise, and understandable explaination for the events surrounding Katrina and New Orleans. But the event brings to my mind the Tsnami in January this year. I had heard from the news that the power generated from the underwater subduction earthquake was so powerful that it changed the Earth's axis, probably fractions of a degree. Being trained in physical geography and specifically climatology, any change to the Earth's axis can have the impact of a change in climate. The axial tilt of the Earth which is or was 23.5% has a 40,000-year cycle of change that can vary from about 24% to as little as 22%. This of course translates to a change in the radiation from the Sun reaching Earth and can change the climate (weather patterns over a long, long period of time)to warmer and wetter or colder and drier. Of course there are many more variables to this phenonoma, one being the 21,000 years cycle change of Earth's orbit around the Sun. Both of these two events of this year have been physically catastrophic to Mother Earth. Do you have any info concerning the change in Earth's axis? I have not heard any new info from the regular news sources. (I am going to contact several of my old geology/physical geography proffessors to see if I can get any info.) Are these events astrologically linked and part of a kind of chain reaction and are the results magnified due to human causes and weakness? These are just some of the thoughts that have been spinning in my mind as I try to comprehend the magnatudude of what has been happening. My heart and prayers go out to all who have been affected. 7. I don't have the chart of the Earth and therefore have no info on shifts in the axis…

I wrote a piece on 9/11 way back…doubt if I can find it.

Thanks to all for your comments and feelings, and correcting my puncuation. I was just an average English major. And lousy at editing my own work.

  9. Your very awesome, everyday I wake up looking forward to your report. I was particularly interested in the birth times of cities. I never knew that could be true for cities; but when I read about the energy that New Orleans is so well known for, & about its birth time? WOW! My prayers are with those who have been so affected by Katrina, what a tragedy for our country. Take care, Lance! Roberta the Scorpion. :) Roberta Aleck    Sep 15, 07:29 PM    #
  10. Hi Lance:
I have been listening to your annual CD. I was intrigued this year by the predictions of world violence (London bombings) and major storms.

I am very glad to know you are safe on the Texas coast.

My heartfelt prayers of peace to all those affect. Melorie Acevedo    Sep 15, 08:40 PM    #
  11. i am glad to see that there is a link to this article on the daily SW page. it's a thoughtful, insightful interpetation of Katrina and the aftermath.

a bit ominious too :-). i really enjoy reading your articles. bye now. tremolo    Sep 16, 03:35 AM    #
  12. My fellow Texas, would like your thoughts on the impending doom of Hurricane Rita, please. Mary Trevino    Sep 21, 11:52 PM    #
  13. Hi Lance,
I was one of your UT students many years ago now living in Florida south of Daytona Beach. Do you have a take on the coast of FLA for 2006?
